Minimal NYC Announces Screening and Art Exhibition of “You Stink Like Beautiful”

Bushwick based gallery Minimal NYC is pleased to announce You Stink Like Beautiful, a film and exhibition following acclaimed artists Adam Krueger and Ron Beach Jr. The opening reception for the exhibition will be on Saturday, May 25, from 6pm – 9.30pm. The screening will be from 8pm – 9.30pm. The works will remain on display until June 9.

The film You Stink Like Beautiful follows the lives of the two young artists in New York's underground art world. The film documents the events of this odd-couple – Adam, a trained fine artist with a meticulous and exacting approach and his friend and collaborator Ron, who paints with his gut and attacks his canvas, as they work toward a major show at Canal St. Gallery in Tribeca.
Based in reality but with a strong satirical point of view, the film questions what is real, as it relates to the meaning of art, to artists themselves, and even the film wherein these questions are explored. The genre-bending film shares a similar tone with Joaquin Phoenix’s “I’m Still Here” and Banksy’s “Exit Through The Gift Shop.” This is "F for Fake" for Millennials.

The film, produced by East Pleasant, was shot in 2007 and 2008 by three-time Emmy award winning director Xander Strohm, whose work is an amalgam of different styles, stories and emotions executed for some of the world’s most well-known names including MTV, Google, Nike, Adidas and the NFL. Emmy nominated and independent film award winning cinematographer Damien Drake, whose work includes Tiger King, Beckham, Team Mars and They Grow Up So Fast, worked as the cinematographer on the film.

The exhibition will include pieces from Adam and Ron’s original Tribeca show, a yin and yang collaboration showcasing and merging their differing styles. Adam, who went through the fine art school system at RISD and SVA showcases his innovative installation methods and virtuosic technical ability. In each piece, the highly personal and emotional subject matter depicts a complex autobiographical moment or feeling.

Ron has spent his entire adult life exploring his art through a multitude of different mediums. With a portfolio that includes painting, film, photography, fabrications, performance, production design, 3D rendering, digital art and technology, he has a diverse background that enables him to push the boundaries of what is possible as an artist. His pieces are visually stimulating, humorous and sometimes jarring, as he merges a playful painting technique with subject matter such as sexuality, violence, and anxiety.

The divergence of route – school vs streets, natural realist vs natural expressionist, comes together in a compelling and often provocative way, with the artists sometimes even sharing the same canvas.
