MAPETO

b. 1985 Concepcion, Chile

immersed in the world of art since childhood, mapeto initially started out as a self-taught artist. This early exploration led him to various collectives and the local music scene.

His passion for artistic expression led him to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he pursued formal studies in visual arts at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes (UNA), delving into painting, engraving, drawing, and sculpture. Mapeto's artistic journey has taken him across borders, and his work has been exhibited in numerous countries. For his exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Buenos Aires, he received the prestigious ABCH Artistic and Cultural Merit. Settling in São Paulo, Brazil, Mapeto expanded his artistic endeavors, contributing to the documentary "Exposto", participating in collective art exhibitions and fairs, and designing album covers for national and international bands.

In the year 2021, Mapeto founded Proyeto Prismas, an initiative dedicated to the documentation and unification of artistic processes among artists. The project has held exhibitions in São Paulo, Mexico City, and New York, all curated by Mapeto. In recent years, Mapeto has been involved in a variety of artistic endeavors, including participation in the Tijuana Triennial: I International Pictorial (Mexico), a solo exhibition at Galeria Gruta in São Paulo, and contributions to collective exhibitions in Rio de Janeiro, Athens, Mexico City, and New York City.

Mapeto's artistic vision focuses on reimagining the pictorial landscape in the digital age. He explores the profound effects of memory and language in virtual realms. His work explores the transformation of language amidst the rise of digital communication, blending neologisms with imaginative imagery. Through open polls on social media, Mapeto transforms his work by interacting with others, offering the opportunity to participate in selecting pictograms to be appropriated from the Internet and translated into hand-rendered paintings, inviting viewers to contemplate the meeting of digital culture and the pictorial matters.
